About the Foundation

The Little Green Book Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations and programs that bring improved healthcare to individuals and their families facing illness.

Bob and Patty Duncan started Little Green Book in 2002 after Bob’s mom, Marilyn, passed away from cancer. They wanted to honor her by helping other families who are fighting this terrible disease in all of its forms.

Our mission at Little Green Book is to pay it forward by supporting cancer research studies and initiatives that we believe will bring better care and positive outcomes for families around the world.

One of the original areas of focus for the foundation was in support of MD Anderson Cancer Center. Marilyn, along with other friends and family members, had received treatments there and both Bob and Patty have become big supporters of the world-class care, treatment and research the organization provides.

The foundation continues to look for other programs and organizations that are doing their part to change healthcare outcomes around the world.

Why Little Green Book

Little Green Book gets its name from the loving concern of a mother for her son. As he was heading to college, Marilyn presented Bob with a little green notebook that she prepared for him.

In this book was a meticulous guide and summary of important “life lessons” and practical everyday advice that could help prepare Bob for his first journey into the real world and beyond. Marilyn, for instance, went into great detail to cross-reference clothing items with recommended matches and combinations, ensuring Bob would always look his best.

Marilyn gave Bob many green books over the years. Although most weren’t actual notebooks, she always provided motherly counsel and advice to prepare him for all of life’s journeys.

Bob Duncan, founder

Bob Duncan is a philanthropist, businessman and founder of the Little Green Book Foundation.

He is best known as the founder and former owner of American Leather, a Dallas-based provider of premium leather furniture. He grew the company from a small team in a borrowed facility to one of the leading furniture manufacturers in the world.

The company today has more than 600 employees and a state-of-the-art 350,000-square-foot factory.

After he sold the company, Bob and his wife Patty founded Little Green Book Foundation to grow and support cancer-fighting programs and initiatives.
